Prep time: 15min | Freezing time: 45-60min | Serves: 4
ALLERGENS: Depends on chocolate and toppings used.
May contain milk, soy, peanuts and/or tree nuts.
*Always check the specific packaged product if you're making this for someone with a severe allergy.
Ingredients
2 medium bananas
100 g dark or milk chocolate, chopped
1 tsp coconut oil (optional, for a smoother chocolate coating)
Optional toppings: crushed peanuts, desiccated coconut, sprinkles, or chopped nuts (optional)
Directions
Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Peel the bananas and slice in half or into bite-sized rounds (approximately 1–2 cm thick) depending on your personal preference.
Place the sliced banana onto the prepared tray and freeze for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in the microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each interval. Add coconut oil if using.
Dip each frozen banana piece into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off.
Sprinkle with your choice of toppings, if desired.
Return to the freezer for 15–20 minutes, or until the chocolate has set.
Enjoy straight from the freezer!
Tips
Try toppings such as crushed peanuts, shredded coconut, sprinkles, crushed freeze-dried berries, chopped nuts or sesame seeds.
Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Allow to sit at room temperature for 2–3 minutes before eating for a slightly softer centre.
Dietitian tip: A fun way to introduce children to different textures and flavours, while pairing fruit with a little chocolate for a satisfying snack. Get the kids involved in dipping the banana into the chocolate and rolling in favourite toppings.
